Olympus, Canon Medical partner on endoscopic ultrasound

Canon Medical and Olympus announced that they reached an agreement to collaborate on endoscopic ultrasound technology.

Under the agreement, Canon will develop and manufacture diagnostic ultrasound used in endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). Olympus handles the sales and marketing efforts in the collaboration.

The deal utilizes Canon’s Aplio i800 diagnostic EUS ultrasound and Olympus’ ultrasound endoscope. Cleveland Clinic, Canon plan a medical imaging research center

Cleveland Clinic and Canon today announced a strategic research partnership involving imaging and healthcare IT.

The two organizations expect to establish a comprehensive imaging research center. The center will potentially include shared workspace in an existing building in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood, adjacent to Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, according to a news release.

A cross-institutional team of clinician-scientists, researchers and engineers will pioneer state-of-the-art imaging technologies. Their joint research projects will focus on cardiology, neurology and musculoskeletal medicine. Their research will have three major components: pre-clinical imaging, human imaging and image analysis.

Canon announced today that established its Canon Healthcare USA subsidiary to strengthen its presence in the American medical market.

Through establishing a presence in the market, Canon seeks to accelerate the growth of its overall medical business.

According to a news release, this represents part of a “grand strategic transformation” of the company’s business portfolio. It aims to realize future growth and its latest phase — Phase VI — has an objective to strengthen its competitiveness.

FDA clears Canon Medical AI-based image reconstruction tech

Canon Medical (NYSE:CAJ) announced today that it received FDA 510(k) clearance for its advanced intelligent clear-IQ engine (AiCE).

Tustin, Calif.-based Canon Medical’s AiCE expands the company’s deep learning reconstruction (DLR) technology platform with its compatibility with the Vantage Orian 1.5T MR system for artificial intelligence-based imaging. It is also available with the Vantage Galan 3T MR system.

Vantage Orian uses a deep learning algorithm to differentiate true signal from noise so it can suppress noise while enhancing signal during image reconstruction, according to a news release. AiCE helps to offer the system high-quality images and seamless integration into routine practice.

Canon wins FDA clearance for speedy MRI

Canon (NYSE:CAJ) announced that it received FDA clearance for its compressed Speeder technology to speed up MRI scan times.

The Speeder technology, run on Canon Medical Systems USA’s Vantage Orian 1.5T MR system allows for clinicians to reconstruct full-resolution images from under-sampled data through iterative reconstruction, improving throughput and offering substantial amounts of time in between exams to clean or disinfect the scanner, if necessary.

Canon’s technology is also available on the Vantage Galan 3T MR system to support image acceleration and avoid unfolding error artifacts seen with standard parallel imaging.
